Special country traditions

Flag-throwing in Tuscany

Flag throwing has been a tradition in Tuscany for a very long time, dating back to the Middle Ages. Military parades were conducted with marching bands and flag bearers because Italians enjoy a good celebration. Since flags are revered, flag carriers must take care to prevent them from dropping to the ground. Flag throwing has gained popularity in recent years throughout Italy, not just in Tuscany. Every year in August, the Volterra Medieval Festival is held. It includes markets and one-of-a-kind performances, such as the renowned flag throwing.

Śmigus Dyngus (giant water fights) in Poland

Śmigus Dyngus, also referred to as "Wet Monday," is a unique tradition carried out in Poland during which participants throw water at one another. Every year on Easter Mondays, Śmigus Dyngus is celebrated, though its origins are a little obscure. Boys throw water at girls as is customary, with the idea being that the lady who gets the most water has the best chance of getting married. Many Polish people still observe it on the said holiday today.

Cheese chasing near Gloucester, England

Cheese chasing, also known as cheese rolling, is a peculiar tradition that is celebrated in Cooper's Hill, England. The tradition, which dates back to the 1800s, calls for participants to descend a steep slope in chase of a rolling cheese. Few competitors can successfully maintain their position with that. A delicious wheel of Double Gloucester cheese will be given to the competition winner.
